6th class February news

6th class February news

6th class have continued to work tirelessly over the month of February with their online learning. We have enjoyed learning some new topics across all of our curriculum subjects and have really found a good rhythm and routine with using Google Classroom for our daily lessons and tasks. The 6th class teachers know this hasn't been an easy road but are so proud of how well 6th class have adapted and matured over the last few months. The end is in sight now and hopefully, we will see a return to school next month.

Our 'Write a Book's are almost there! We are putting our final edits to them, adding covers and making some last minute changes before submitting them to the Blackrock Education Centre for judging. We are so proud of all our work on these books as are our teachers. Who knew we would become published authors of our very own stories in the middle of a global pandemic and national lockdown? Go us!
Mr. O' Luasaigh's and Ms. Fleming's classes are continuing with their novel work and really enjoying them. Ms. Synnott's and Ms.Lane's classes have been learning about lots of new topics through their discovery of non-fiction texts. They have found out about 'The Titanic', 'Katie Taylor', 'Mahatma Gandhi' and wildlife in danger. Some of the students have gone on to research more about the topics that have caught their eye.
Ba é 'Éadaí’ an téama a bhí againn i rith mí Feabhra. Bhíomar ag foghlaim na h-ainmneacha don éadaí éagsúla. Bhíomar ag cleachtadh na réamhfhocail pearsanta 'ar' agus 'do' freisin.

We have been getting hands on with maths in the kitchen lately discovering the topic of weight. We got really creative and made chocolate chip cookies. These were delicious - check out the pictures below! We have also looked at the topic of chance and have recently started capacity. 6th class students have been really showing their resilience and independence by mastering these tricky topics from home!

We have been having a great time with science at home! We had to create blueprints for catapults, build them and send our teachers photos and videos of the catapults in operation. These were very impressive and some students even received prizes for their hard work and ingenuity.
6th class have been working hard in preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation from home. Over the month of February, we have chosen our Confirmation names, our sponsors and have learned all about the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and the Fruits of the Holy Spirit. We are really excited to celebrate our Confirmation when it is safe for us to do so.
We also made some lovely valentines art in mid-February that we gave to our loved ones. Check out some photos below of our masterpieces.
Keep working hard 6th class, we hope to see you back in our classrooms really soon. Stay safe everyone!
