In third class, we had a lovely month of December in school.
We kept ourselves very busy with lots of preparation for Christmas.
Everyone in third class worked really hard all term long and earned a well deserved break!
.
English:
We worked on the comprehension strategy of Visualising and we used the lovely poem ‘The Night before Christmas’ to practice this skill. Each child received an extract from the poem and visualised what they read. Everyone really enjoyed this activity and it felt really Christmassy!
Writing:
We wrote reports on Reindeer after lots of research on the topic and we had lots of fun doing some free writing about Christmas.
This month we also had lots of fun learning these tongue twisters:
Blitzer Bobbles a billion brilliant bells.
Eleven elves licked eleven little liquorice lollipops.
Why don’t you give them a try?
Gaeilge:
Bhíomar ag foghlaim faoin Nollaig an mhí seo.
Rinneamar geansaí nollaig agus bhíomar an ghnóthach ag gléasta an crann nollag.
Támid in ann na ceisteanna seo a fhreagairt anois:
Cad ba mhaith leat don Nollag?
Cad a itheann do don dinnéar na Nollag?
Cén dath atá ar shrón Rudolph?
Maths:
In maths we learned all about fractions in December.
We explored halves, quarters and eighths.
We learned that a fraction is a piece of something, not the whole thing.
We discovered how to find a fraction of a number and we also learned how to find the full number when we only know a fraction of it. Everybody worked really hard and teachers were really impressed!
Other Subjects:
In S.E.S.E we learned about Christmas traditions all around the world.
It was really interesting to see what people do in other countries to celebrate Christmas.
We really enjoyed watching the pantomime ‘The Sword and the Stone’ in school and we are very grateful to the parents association for that.
We had lots of fun taking part in the Christmas Door art competition and you can see some of our decorated doors below!
We also made some really cute sock snowmen in art! Check them out down below!
We hope that everyone had a lovely Christmas and New Year!
