3rd class have been really busy bees during the months of November and December! Everyone has been working very hard and we are looking forward to the Christmas holidays! We hope you enjoy reading about and looking through all of our hard work below!
English
We have been focusing on the comprehension strategy of Visualising during our Guided Reading lessons. We have been using our five senses (touch, taste, smell, hear and see) to help us understand what we are reading.
We have also been revising nouns, adjectives and verbs and have been trying to spot them in our Guided Reading books!
Writing:
Since the mid-term break we have published our very own recounts! We are very proud of these written pieces as they have been a work in progress for a number of weeks.
During the month of December, we were learning all about reindeer! These animals are fascinating and we have really enjoyed reading and learning about them. We are hoping to have our first report on these amazing animals published before the Christmas holidays. When writing a report we need to make sure that we are following this structure:
- Title – Names the thing
- Classification – Tells what the thing is
- Description – Tells what the thing has and what it looks like
- Location – Tells where the thing is or is found
- Dynamics – Tells what the thing can do
We are continuing to use our oral language skills both in class and on the yard. We are really working on being good listeners and keeping eye contact when we are speaking to others.
We always enjoy learning new tongue twisters! Try saying these festive tongue twisters yourself:
- Blitzer bobbles a brilliant billion bells.
- Eleven elves licked eleven little liquorice lollipops.
Gaeilge
Táimid ag obair go dian as Gaeilge ag caint faoi An Scoil, Geimhreadh, Bia agus An Nollaig.
Táim in ann na ceisteanna seo a fhreagairt anois:

- Ar thit ? Thit/Níor thit.

- Is maith liom . /Is fuath liom . /Is aoibhinn liom .

Maths
In maths we have been working very hard on learning our multiplication and division tables. We now know our 2’s, 4’s and 8’s! We have covered other topics such as symmetry and fractions. Our teachers were so proud of us when we made the link between division, symmetry and fractions!
Other subjects
In history we read the famous Irish myth ‘The Salmon of Knowledge.’ We tried to imagine what life was like for Fionn when he became the wisest man in Ireland! In geography we studied Co. Meath and all the tourist attractions that are found there. We were particularly fascinated by Newgrange! In science we learned about our amazing lungs and the amazing work they do 24/7! As we are getting ready for Christmas, we are learning about Christmas traditions in other parts of the world during our history and geography lessons. It is wonderful to hear that everyone in 3rd class has their own family traditions at Christmas.
In our art lessons we made beautiful clay fish and decorated them with sequins to represent ‘The Salmon of Knowledge’ that Fionn caught in The River Boyne. We also created our own clay pinch pot monsters and painted them beautifully! Using chalk pastels, we created our own aurora borealis pictures. We are really enjoying our Christmas and winter themed art this month!
Make sure to look through some of our wonderful work from November and December below!
Keep up the great work in 2022 3rd class!
Wishing everyone a very happy and safe Christmas and New Year!
