4th Class- March/April news

4th class were been delighted having returned to school in March. Everyone was glad to say sign out of Google Classroom and see all of their friends in person! It has been fantastic being back in the classroom and we have all been super busy over the past 2 months.

We have begun exploring our new writing genre which is explanation writing and we are currently finding it very interesting and learning lots of new interesting facts. We have been learning all about the structure of explanation writing.

This is the structure we have been using:

We have continued with our Guided Reading in school and have focused on our comprehension skills of questioning and clarifying. We have become very inquisitive asking and answering questions based on our reading and clarifying the meaning of words also.

Oral Language:

We have been working on our listening and retelling skills for our oral language since returning back to school. We listen to our partners news and then report back to the class with this news. We also love a good tongue twister in 4th class and have been practicing this one in April:

Give it a go at home!

Ba iad “Éadaí” agus “An Teilifís” na téamaí a bhí againn i rith míonna an Mhárta agus an Aibreáin. Bhíomar ag foghlaim faoi éadaí éagsúla agus ag caint faoi na cláir a mbainimid taitneamh astu ar an teilifís.

Since returning back to the classroom, 4th class have been busy working on their multiplying, dividing, adding and subtracting whilst also putting in amazing work into their new topic; fractions. We have loved the challenge of fractions and now know how to find any fraction of a number! We have continued to practice our tables and are getting more confident each week!

Other Subjects

We have had some special visitors join us in our classrooms. We have seen these develop from frogspawn into tadpoles and soon to be froglets. They will then be returning to their natural habitat where they will develop into fully grown frogs. We have learned all about the lifecycle of a frog and we were amazed when we saw the transition from frogspawn to tadpole!

In SESE we have learned lots about the mountains, rivers and lakes in Ireland, about the Sioux Tribe of Native America and also created some wonderful dream catchers in the style of the Native American art work and also about the mountains, rivers and lakes of Ireland.

We have also created some lovely Easter wreaths, St. Patrick’s Day decorations and now that it is getting a little bit warmer and sunnier we created some fantastic summery vases of flowers as we prepare for summer to arrive.

Take a look at the pictures below to see some samples of all of the lovely work 4th class have completed over the last few weeks.

Keep up the incredible work 4th class!
